The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC)

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Dhaka starts working in Bangladesh in 1981 under a UN General Assembly Resolution. The Centre is a part of a network of 63 United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) and Services around the globe. The Centre is key to the Organization’s ability to reach the peoples of Bangladesh and to share the United Nations stories with them. UNIC Dhaka serves as a reliable source of up-to-date information about the UN, delivering information to a wide range of people, including journalists, government and NGO officials, civil society representatives, students, educators and researchers.
UNIC Dhaka develops and implements a coordinated communications strategy for Bangladesh, in consultation with UN DPI, UN Country Team and the local UN partners, to publicize priority issues and major observances and events. UNIC adapts global UN messages to the local context through a variety of information products aimed at national audiences.

UNIC maintains contact with national media in the country, disseminates background information and press materials to the media, places op-eds and feature articles, arrange interviews and organize press conferences and briefings.

UNIC Dhaka offers products and services such as newsletters, libraries, videos, web sites and internet facilities. The Centre often works with civil society in promoting a variety of issues through seminars, exhibits and other activities.

UNIC Dhaka also participates in observances of international days, years and decades. Commemorations take many forms and may include presentations involving national or local dignitaries, workshops, seminars, educational programmes, sporting events, drama, and musical performances.
