Patuakhali Science And Technology University

The Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) formally Inaugurated on 8 July, 2000 by Honorable present Prime MinisterSheikh Hasina with the campus of former Patuakhali Agricultural College as its nucleus.
The largest University of southern region Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) took off its journey with the on-going Faculty of Agriculture offering 4-years B.Sc. Ag. Degree as its primary focus of acade­mic program. The University has a mandate of widening its scope of educational expansion in conformity to the present education policy of the national government particularity in the information communication technology (ICT) and other demand­ driven disciplines in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Against this backdrop the PSTU has planned to start two more new faculties, namely Computer Science and Engineering as well as Business Administration and Management, the new frontiers of knowledge added to its cur­rent academic program. In the meantime, it has already given affiliation to the Barisal Government Veterinary College as its constituent faculty (Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine). Besides, it has also offer degree programs in the field of Fisheries, Nutrition and food Science and Faculty of Disaster Management which is the firstly B.Sc degree given in Bangladesh .
The Patuakhali Science and Technology University has a long history before it comes to its present stage. It has been meta­morphically developed at the private initiative of the local peo­ple through the establishment of a Higher Secondary Institute in 1972 as a private college. It was then turned to Patuakhali Agricultural College under the affiliation of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh in 1979 with the mandatory objectives of producing agricultural gradu­ates offering B.Sc.Ag. Degree. Later, the college was national­ized on 1st February 1985 and was placed under the adminis­trative control of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Ministry of Agriculture together with BAU affiliation.

The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh launched a project of establishing 'Science and Technology University' in the former greater districts where no such univer­sities exist. That project advocated the transformation of Patuakhali Agricultural College into a full-fledged university entitled Patuakhali Science and Technology University which came into being through a Parliamentary Act passed on 12 July 2001.
Location: The Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) is situated 15 km North from Patuakhali city ,28 km South from Barisal Divisional city in Dumki upazilaof Patuakhali district, Bangladesh. It is just 5 km east from Barisal –Kuakata (famous tourist spot) high way.
