Bangladesh University of Textiles is only one public university among all textile universities in Bangladesh. meet the growing need for advanced Textile engineering education in Bangladesh as well as in the world. Though the university was established on 22nd December,2010 by a ordinance of Education Ministry. It has a long past history.
During the British colonial rule in 1921 a weaving school was established in Narinda, Dhaka to meet textile technical education by offering artisan level course. It was named on East Bengal Textile Institute which was upgraded to offer diploma course in Textile Technology and was named East Pakistan Textile Institute in 1950. In 1960 the institute is transferred to its present campus at Tejgaon I/A in 1978, the institute launched the 4 year bachelor degree in Textile Technology by affilation with the University of Dhaka & was renamed the institute as college of textile technology. In order to meet the challange of increasing demand of sophisticated & latest technology.
The University offers graduation courses with six specializations to prepare its students for their career life. Masters Course in Textiles Engineering programs will be lunched in july, 2011. Graduation course in Environmental Science & pollution control & Production Engineering are going to be lunched within very short time. This University has 35 bigha land with large infrastructure including 86800 sq.ft area for academic & Administration Bhaban, Fifteen Workshop & 84000 sq.ft area for lab. A development project to improve infrastructure is under process for approval.
